  14. echo       This software has been placed into the public domain to establish a
  15. echo    reference point for comparing the performance of PC compatible VGA
  16. echo    systems.
  17. echo       The 3D benchmark is arrived at by timing one cycle of a continuous
  18. echo     3-dimensional demonstration and then calculating the average number of
  19. echo     screen updates the computer system has achieved in one second (frames
  20. echo     per second - fps).  The higher the benchmark, the greater the performance.
  21. echo       The benchmark is dependant on a number of factors.  These include:

  25. echo      the processor type (eg 80286, 80386, 80486)
  26. echo      the speed of the processor
  27. echo      the speed of the memory
  28. echo      the use of cache memory
  29. echo      the internal architecture of the PC

  31. echo    & the efficiency of the VGA card.

  33. echo (The presence of a floating point co-processor will 
  34. echo                 not affect the result)

  45. echo    This software can be used to compare the performance of similar VGA
  46. echo computer systems when making a buying decision.  It can also be used by
  47. echo hardware manufacturers to provide a continuous display during exhibitions
  48. echo or for shop window displays.  It may also be bundled with hardware
  49. echo purchases.
  50. echo    The environment featured has been created using the Virtual Reality
  51. echo Toolkit.  Customised demonstrations and environments can also be made to
  52. echo order.

  73. echo       This benchmark uses SUPERSCAPE Virtual Reality software.  Environments
  74. echo     run in real time and display walk-through 3D graphics, simulating the
  75. echo     experience of actually being there.  This particular demonstration has
  76. echo     not been made interactive, so that the reference point used to create the
  77. echo     benchmark is fixed.

  81. echo     Virtual Reality Toolkit products are considerably superior to this
  82. echo     demonstration in respect of screen resolution, degree of detail, control

  101. echo  *  The Desktop VR system is a turnkey solution complete with all hardware
  102. echo     and Virtual Reality software - the Superscape Visualiser.  This provides
  103. echo     real time visualisation and interaction within virtual worlds.  Several

  106. echo  *  The Virtual Reality Toolkit (VRT) is an interactive utility  used for the
  107. echo     creation and manipulation of virtual worlds. Although it is designed for
  108. echo     use with the Desktop VR system, the created worlds can be run on any

  110. echo     The integrated package includes the Shape Editor - a real time solid 3D
  111. echo     shape modeller, the World Editor - a real time environment creation
  112. echo     program, and several libraries of ready made shapes and objects.
